Quick checklist of the things that need to be checked to allow remote connections to SQL server

• Firewall off or add exception
• SQL Server Management Studio - Properties on SQL Server itself (the db listing in the tree) - Allow Remote Connections
• SQL Server Configuration - SQL Server Network Configuration, ENABLE TCP/IP
• SQL Server Configuration - Start SQL Server Browser
