See these all over the place, but here's a reference as to one good way to do it. Basically two images, one with the whole navbar unselected, then one with it selected. The "hover" state for each block defines a specific section of the background image to use. Also used here, LI elements with no margin/border/etc. Probably breaks in Firefox :) Posted 1:48 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Highly geeky, I realize, but here's a decent quick reference on the ISO character set. Mostly used in XSLT files (and sometimes HTML) where you use the code instead of the character itself. Most often used are: (non-breaking space)   © (copyright) © ... and others ... keywords: iso ascii code chart Posted 1:10 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Tuesday, June 28, 2005
...and the next in the series of mapping/sattelite viewing apps... Google combines the Keyhole desktop/broadband application with google maps to make Google Earth Free download, then pay versions with more functionality. Can search by exact Lat/Long, so great for geocaching. Posted 8:23 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Monday, June 27, 2005

Well this turns out ok...a little garbled, but good enough to remember thoughts from the road... Posted 7:47 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Wow - this is pretty cool. Was playing around with some updates to my blogger pages, decided to see what's new. Audioblogging -- the ability to call from a phone, record your thoughts, and their posted to your blog as an MP3 file!! Way cool. Best of all - it's FREE, and hooks into your existing blogger.com blogs. Audioblogger phone number: 1-415-856-0205 Posted 7:35 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() When I posted a new topic today on DotNetNerd, I noticed that the text of the first post was starting below the bottom of the archives list, leaving tons of white space at the top of the page. Not sure when this started, only in the past couple days, but it looks like it's affecting many people. View source, and you see an empty <div> tag just before the $BlogItemBody$ section (from the template). The style on this DIV is clear:both which means don't allow this text to go alongside any floating elements. Well, the archives list "menu" to the right of the page is exactly that - float: right. Anyway - here are some links where people suggest workarounds. I briefly tried one of them (put my own DIV surrounding the BlogItemBody), but it didn't work (at least in preview mode). Hopefully Blogger.com will fix this soon... Surprisingly, this was the first hit on google for "blogger template clear both". ...which linked to this ...which linked to this Posted 6:57 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Wednesday, June 22, 2005
Notes from TWIT 6 show - things to look at Craigslist meets apartment listings also check out real-time taxi/limo locations in Google labs. Yahoo umlimited music Posted 2:18 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Marchello pointed me to this task manager extension. I haven't tried it, but judging from the screenshots, it's pretty decent. Not sure if it's better than Process Explorer from SysInternals, which is .NET aware, and shows pretty much the same stuff as the above. Here's the FareAlert site that alerts you of amazing deals on airline fares, hotel rates, etc. Most of the time, these deals are from a mistake on the web site, etc. but many times, they have to be honored anyway. Posted 4:23 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Tuesday, June 14, 2005
I guess I'm blogging for Mark B now (hi Mark!) :). He found this on CodeGuru. Delete an exe from within the exe? Article is here Posted 9:59 AM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Monday, June 13, 2005
On TWITcast, Leo and friends talk about Yahoo Unlimited, where supposedly you can get unlimited music downloads for $4.99/mo if you sign up for a year. One of many articles about it are here. Yahoo Unlimited is here. Some gotchas: -- downloaded music is limited to ONE computer (and I think a portable) -- portable player is not iPod, but rather Creative? Log Parser for MS event logs, IIS, etc Thanks to Miles for this link. Parser for event logs, IIS logs, etc. Can even export to SQL. Posted 10:47 AM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Way back at RedDotNet, my buddy Chris showed me ICQ. Since then, I can NEVER rememeber my icq number. Obviously, all the popular IM clients have come along since then and use the now more standard email address as the unique id. Anyway - here it is, once and for all, my ICQ # so I can look it up whenever I need it again (glad ICQ.com has a lookup/directory feature where I could find it this last time) 102709903 Posted 9:56 AM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Tuesday, June 07, 2005
Listened to some of Mark Russinovich's TechEd talk today about spyware, malware, viruses, etc. He points to a couple things during the talk. AutoRuns, better than any other tool that shows you what's configured to run at startup. Running as non-Admin. Aaron Margosis has a good site/blog about this topic, as does Keith Brown, who's been a leader in this charge for some time now. That Funny Steve Ballmer Video Thing I was watching the video webcast of this morning's TechEd 2005 Keynote, where Ballmer was speaking. My wife asked "who is that kook?" I did a quick search for his (in)famous speech intros. Here's a good summary page. That Funny Steve Ballmer Video Thing Posted 9:35 PM | 0 comments | Permalink ![]() Sunday, June 05, 2005
drupal.org | Community plumbing Leo mentions Drupal on twit.tv blogs as what he's hosting the TWIT site on. It's an open source content management platform for blogging, collaborative authoring, forums, newsletters, etc. The cool thing Leo mentions is that Drupal automatically throttles away the high-bandwidth content when many users are hitting the site.
